- Bravo for our talented, creative, energetic and diverse student body!
We are a proud family with a strong tradition of excellence. Sierra Madre School’s students will be the leaders, thinkers, and creators of the future!
Our Mission Statement
Sierra Madre School is committed to providing a program which promotes academic, physical, emotional and social growth for all our students within a safe and secure environment. Our goal is that these endeavors will foster high student academic achievement and creative thinking among our students and staff, to work together in harmony with parents and the community for the good of all students.
History and Transition
Sierra Madre School began in 1882 as a one-room schoolhouse in the center of town in Kersting Court. The original school bell still hangs in that location today.
The streetcar line came through in town in 1905 and the school was moved to Highland and Auburn streets. A total renovation in 1930 created one of the most beautiful schools in the country, designed in the Spanish mission revival style.
Dedication and Innovation
Strong leadership and good teachers are essential to an effective school. All teachers follow curriculum based on California State Standards, including Visual and Performing Arts standards. The needs of diverse learners are met, including English Language Learners, Gifted and Talented and Special Education students. Attainment is assessed through prompts that are included in each child’s portfolio. We have enhanced this rigorous curriculum with a vision for the finest education possible.
