 About Mrs. York

My name is Suzanne York and I have been a teacher at Sierra Madre School for four years. Before that time I had many different jobs including writer, actress, caterer and landscaper (to name a few), as well as teaching art and drama at a number of schools and camps. Although both of my parents were teachers, I did not know how much I loved teaching until I had children. Many students in my class will hear stories about my son Sean, 16, daughter Caitlin, 14, and my husband Dan, 53, a writer and director of a land conservancy in California.

I love teaching and take my job seriously. My greatest goal as a teacher is to instill in my students a love for learning, so that they can become independent thinkers. The best way to do this, I feel, is to make sure that they become great readers, writers, and mathematicians. I also look for many other ways to inspire students- especially through the arts. I am always looking for new things to learn and relearn. I hope you will share with me some of your special gifts so that we can work in partnership.
