Welcome To The 2009/2010 Service Club!
Meetings are 90 minutes long. Watch the e-mails for meeting notices. We will also have other service events, which will be communicated by e-mail.
Scheduled meeting dates for the 09/10 school year are as follows:9/21, 10/19, 11/23, 1/25, 3/01, 3/29, 4/19, 5/17, 6/07.Unscheduled meetings and events may occur throughout the year,utilizing email as the main form of communication.
This year we will apply for Presidential Service Awards:

Presidential Service Award Criteria for Students under 14 years old:
Bronze Level 50-74 hours in one year
Silver Level 75-99 hours in one year
Gold Level 100+ hours in one year
Note: If you only attend the meetings, you will not have enough service hours for the Presidential Service Award.

What is Service Club?
We are a student group, supported by volunteer parents, set-up to “lend a helping hand” to our school and in the surrounding community.
Student Requirements to be in the Service Club:
* willingness to give your time and energy as needed
* completed Student Agreement Form
* Permission Slip with your parent's signature
* keep track of your hours—monthly
* have a signed “SMMS Service Club Hours” form, if you are getting service in the community or hours from an extracurricular school activity
* dues of $10 paid.
Expectation of Students:
* participation in meetings and event with a positive attitude
* responsible for all clean-up with snacks and activity
* show respect for the volunteers at the meetings
* be on my best behavior when representing the school.
Criteria for Service Club Hours:
* Service must be completed by student (not parent or friend)
* Service must be completed in current school year (June 2009-June 2010)

* All service must be volunteered, with no payment received for service.
Goals:
* gain leadership skills
* to learn the value of volunteering and supporting a community

Home-baked Doggie Treats
Pasadena Humane SocietyFor Sierra Madre Middle School Service Clubone batch of doggie treats earns 2 hours of service time.You Need:2 ½ cups whole wheat flour ½ cup powdered milk
½ teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon garlic powder
6 tablespoons margarine or meat drippings ½ cup ice water
1 egg, beaten 1 teaspoon brown sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour, milk, salt, and sugar. Cut in margarine/drippings until mixture resembles cornmeal. Mix in egg. Add enough water so that the mixture forms a ball. With your fingers, pat out the dough to ½- inch thickness on a lightly oiled cookie sheet. Cut with biscuit or cookie cutters into shapes. Press the scraps together and repeat the process to cut more shapes. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool. Store in a ziplock baggie in the freezer.
